What better place to contemplate your future than Mendoza, Argentina the capital of Argentina’s wine country at the base of the snow-capped Andes?
This workshop combines the business of planning for your retirement with the pleasures of fine wine and food, a vibrant artistic and cultural scene and spectacular mountain scenery in the eighth “Great Wine Capital of the World.” It's for anyone who's grappling with planning for retirement--not just for those considering moving to a foreign country.
The workshop base will be the Posada de Rosas, a centrally-located small inn in Mendoza that's owned by North Americans and is walking distance from restaurants, shops, parks, plazas and other amenities of this Euro-style city.
With its charming gardens and spacious rooms, the Posada will provide a tranquil, restful ambience to help you sort out your options for retirement.
Each day starts with Continental breakfast in the sunroom, on the terrace, or alongside the swimming pool. During the workshop, you’ll participate in six lively, thought-provoking sessions on the key topics.
Each day will be different, but in addition to the workshop sessions, the week will include:
Each of the six sessions will focus on one of six key questions to consider in planning your retirement:
Your retirement decisions will almost certainly affect other people as well--your spouse or partner, children, parents or close friends. Because they live longer and tend to have fewer retirement assets than men, women face special issues in retirement planning. In this session we examine how to take these personal relationships and characteristics into consideration when you're planning for retirement.
You can't make key retirement decisions until you have a vision of your lifestyle. This session focuses on the components and issues to consider in making lifestyle decisions.
You can start Social Security at 62 or later, start Medicare at 65, and generally not take money out of your 401(k) without penalty until you turn 59 1/2. Maybe in a few years, the kids may be in college or maybe in five years you'll qualify for a pension. Thinking through these and other factors to set the right retirement date is not easy. This session will suggest a process for figuring it out.
Your current house? Or a smaller apartment or a condo on the beach? Your current neighborhood, city, region or state? Or maybe a different country? This session will review the key options, as well as their pros and cons.
Have you ever said, or heard anyone say:"I'll never retire"? Even if this is your attitude, there are some good reasons--ranging from your health status to the search for new, inspiring, creative activities--to retire, at least partially. This session offers examples of the many new lifestyles and activities that are making retirement attractive, even to people who said they would never do it.
What are your next steps toward retirement? In the final group session, we weave together the threads from the entire workshop to help you come up with a series of specific next steps.
